The Starving Man at the Buffet Analogy
Zach: Ahh, spring is finally here. That wonderful time of year when temperatures rise and girls wear less clothing.
Leroy: You know, I almost wish it was cold again, because seeing girls in revealing clothing everywhere, for me, is the like taking a starving man to a buffet and not letting him within 20 feet of the food.
Zach: Well maybe the starving man could have the food if he wanted, but he's not confident enough in himself to walk up there and take it.
Leroy: But every time the starving man tries to get the food he's slapped on the wrists and told, "don't do that."
Zach: That's because the starving man is going straight for the prime rib and lobster. He can't just waltz up to the buffet and grab the best and most expensive items on the menu.
Leroy: Well the starving man doesn't want shit! He'd rather have something good or nothing at all.
(girl walks by)
Both: Oh man, I'd eat her for dinner.
Discussion Questions:
Do you think Leroy suffers from an excess of self doubt? Are other circumstances contributing to
his problem?
What is Zach referring to when he says the starving man shouldn't go for prime rib and lobster?
Is Leroy correct in refusing to compromise? Should he lower his standards?
